dismiss that ticket only. However, the court has an option to add a point to your driving record. If it's the first offense, most likely, they won't do the point thing. If it's an ongoing issue (subsequent tickets for the same thing), then they will put points on your DMV record. Recently, there is talk of requiring fix-it tickets to go through CHP inspection stations, because they know people are just getting signed off without actually fixing the violation. I don't know if this has already made it to law, a Senate bill, or if it's still in the stages of talks -- I really don't know. Although the fine exists for those who reach the expiration date of the correction, it also can serve as an option. If somebody receives a fix-it ticket for a correctable violation, but said person determines that the cost to fix the violation is more than the fine, he might choose to pay the fine instead of fixing it.
